High idle with A/C

Hi all, first time post. Got my '15 Disco 4 TD a few months ago and are loving it. Had our first real warm day of 30° C and had the A/C running. Having the dog in the back, when I briefly stopped at a friends house I left the Disco running with the A/C on and in Park. The revs climbed to 1200 rpm, in D all felt good with idle going back down to normal. When the ambient temperature dropped below 26° the idle no longer climbed and remained at normal speed. I've searched for any other threads on the matter but couldn't find any.

Btw - take the dog out, and shut the vehicle down..

Reasons:
(1) illegal to leave a running vehicle unattended.
(2) idling engines are being damaged by that very action, so avoiding unnecessary idling when parked up helps prevent engine sooting, bores glazing, and rings coking up.

I didn't want to be schooled on the legalities of leaving a vehicle running in a driveway with me leaning on the bonnet, and I suppose I should avoid all stop signs and red traffic lights.

If you are going to leave your dog in the vehicle then open all the windows about an inch so that the poor bugger doesn't cook in there instead of leaving it idling for the air con.
If the engine shuts down for any reason the dog won't survive for long on a hot day with the windows closed.

And it can be a bugger to get that dead dog smell out of the upholstery!!!

He was standing right next to the car, no risk to the dog.
