    MoveLater2 Up the Cape

I am thinking of taking my 2009 D3 up to the Cape next year. I have made a set of drawers for the back and will be using a rooftop tent.
I plan on buying a winch, redoing the door seals, a bra and protector for the air compressor for the suspension. I already have skid pan, recovery gear and a few spares in my kit.
Any advice on the mechanical side that I should do would be appreciated.

Take the usual hoses, belts and a couple of tyres etc. You won't need the winch or recovery gear, these days it's no longer a frontier.

If you have any mechanical issues up there, these blokes are good.

If you have not already done so,fit a manual release cable to the tailgate. If the actuator fails with the upper tailgate shut,it is a very awkward job opening it especially if you have drawers fitted. An easy job when tailgate open....remove plastic trim & then carpeted trim lower gate........prise up the moisture shield.......remove latch.......drill hole in operating lever.......attach trace wire and run a loop to under the plastic trim.......replace everything.....job's done.

If you're a customer of MR, I believe they'll give you an emergency kit to take with you. You give it back upon your return, only paying for what you have used.

Lower control arm bushes are worth checking and replacing if worn.
