    D2 CDL or no CDL

Does anyone know the exact date/chasis sequence to the Disco2 CDL changeover.
I thought it was from '99 to 02
then 02 to 04, but chasis numbers would make interstate evaluation much simpler.

From my understanding - in Typical Land Rover fashion.... it's not as simple as a hard cut off date.. :? :?

From what I was told, sometime in 2001 they started to get rid of the diff lock - some did and some didn't.

I was told by several Land Rover mechanics, the ONLY way to be sure is crawl underneith and check - as there are examples of both with and without in 2001 and they are not a clear date or VIN cut off.

Mine is a 2000 and it does have a CDL in the transfer case ( and as of today has an AMV actuator.... can't wait to play )

    D2 CDL or no CDL

    Hi,
Seeing that there is no clear date as to when the CDL was withdrawn.

For those that would like to find out if they have CDL or not !!!

Get under and have a look at the transfer case serial number If it starts with either 41D or 42D you have the diff lock stud you will only require the linkage parts.

If it starts with 61D, 62D, 69D or 70D you will need the diff lock parts to go in the transfer case

The serial no is on the under side of the transfer case at the rear parallel to the back edge

    Click on this:

    http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/part_17.html

Also click on the technical info & the installation instructions.

And Dave Ashcroft is very helpful and will have the parts (new) shipped to us in Aust within 10 days.

Hope this helps it did for me

    Cheers Aston

Also it was reintroduced in 2003 (build date) this is to know as well.

From mid 2001 to mid 2003 build date nothing in the transfer case, from mid 99 (first D2) up to mid 2001 it had the difflock in the transfer case but no acatuator, and from mid 2003 D2A complete difflock in.

As bytemrk said there have been cases of late 2001 D2s with the 61D etc cases having the difflock in the transfer case 8O one of these D2s is on the D2au forum.

Phil why do you need to know, all Defender TD5s have the difflock, it was only the D2 that was effected.

    Cheers Baz.

Hi guys after some help if possible. Last night spent half an hour under the car trying to find the serial number on the transfer case. Could not find any numbers at all. Must admit I am not very mechanically minded ops:
Looked at what I thought was where it should be and nothing. Then my eight year old daughter came into the garage and said Dad you better go and spend some time with mum being valentine's day cause mum will think you love the car more than her, I then gave up looking. Can any one post a picture or advise of a link of what I should be looking for, I am trying to find out if I have a cdl in the transfer case.
    Thanks Adrian.

I would like to know if I am missing out as well.

Perhaps when we go to Cervantes/Lancelin someone can point me in the right direction
