child restraint anchor points defender 110

Hi all. I have a 1996 defender 110 which i need to get some child restraint anchors put into. I know this has been covered here before but most of the forum posts are from way back in 2008 or earlier. I am in the brisbane/gold coast area and a couple of well known, mrt-approved engineers tell me it's not possible in this car because of the lack of steel in the usual places for a crab bar or floor anchors. Has anyone done this in the 1996 model or know of an engineer in the area who could install and approve anchors? Ideally i would like to get the floor anchor type rather than a crab bar, but things are getting a bit desperate so any option will work.
    Thank in advance

Mines a bit newer, 2013, but I'm assuming things haven't changed much in the roof. We had a bar made up that goes above the back door, shaped to follow the curve. It bolts into the existing points where the roof does in each corner at roof level. The only downside is the restraint strap goes above the bench seats on the side. Other than that it sits up out of the way.

Daniel (Mulgo) arranged it for us in Sydney.

child restraint anchor points defender 110

I got two put in a 2017 110 in Brisbane 2 yrs ago. I can’t remember the company but they replaced two load tie down points adding a metal plate on the outside. Got the eng cert somewhere so will try and get the name of the mob that did it.

I went to get a crab bar fitted to my 94' Defender. The fitter asked why I wanted to go with one. He suggested that he could fit two brackets to the floor where the seat belts are. He stated that if the fitting could support the seat belts, it could handle the child support.

So I got Two fittings and an engendering certificate. Very pleased with it - and the the grand kids are devoted Land Rover fans.
