    Contemplating 2nd Hand RRS

    Hi Guys,

    Contemplating buying a 2nd hand RRS if I can't find what I want in a Disco 4.

Can anyone tell me if there were any options with an RRS when purchased from a dealer - like sunroof or such.
I know that they came in a few different engine configurations but I think the 3.0 litre diesel would suit me best for towing.

Anyone car to chime in what to look for and what to look out for!
Basically, the good, the bad and the downright ugly!

    Cheers,
    Tricky

    2010 on v6 - some will say v8 .
V8 sounds much better , but not that much more power , v8 were specked higher .
6 speed auto is fine , I think the 8 speed was a rotary knob .

2012 on had 8 speed , single powered tailgate - not split like earlier versions , more chrome trim , LSE spec was standard ?

I have a 2009 built 2010 - v6 ,6 speed - with a DPF . 197k ,just had new trans fitted . Blue with black trim ,no sunroof ,no seat heaters ,not memory seats .

Has towed a lot , not super heavy stuff - camper trailer 1000kg , small caravan 1400kg .camper goes off-road .
    Economical , great towrig - and I tow a lot !
Comfy ,fast , knowing you can go anywhere with confidence - unless the gearbox craps itself ! Even then I drove home 1000km

RRS are a lot more reasonably priced than a disco 4 ,less kms ( relative ) but not much aftermarket add ons
Buy your own servicing gear , and a diagnostic tool

Hope this helps , happy to answer Qs

I would get the facelift tdv8 my10 RRS. it’s a great motor. Very easy to disable the EGR. I have it in a L322 MY08. No timing belts on the tdv8.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow

    I have a RRS 4.2 ltr V8 Supercharged. I would recommend it over a Diesel V6 .
I just got back from towing 1600kg about 300klms- did it easily. Petrol might work out dearer than Diesel but you will save $1000's on purchase which would make up for the extra cost of Fuel. They are economical on a run but a bit thirsty around town. But you will have a smile on your face regarding how well they perform compared to the Diesel.
    I am just a little biased !!!!!!
Mine has a sunroof , but unless you live in certain parts of Australia I would not recommend having one. We have only been able to use ours 4-5 times in 4 years and only when doing less than 80kph.

    RRS vs Disco 4

    Awesome responses thanks guys!!

Rex - I heard the V8 diesel has better fuel economy than the 3.0 litre V6 and 40Nm more torque - is this true? Is you V6 the 2.7 litre or the 3.0 litre diesel (not sure when the cut-over was from 2.7 to 3.0)?? Not really worried about after-market add-on's nor the extra seating capacity!

RAR110 - what's the servicing intervals on the V8? Any inherent problems with this motor? So the facelift was from MY10 onwards???

Redhead - yes my son, Plugger, wants me to get the V8 petrol, but just concerned about the fuel economy around town etc. Drove a 3.0 litre TDV6 D4 and was mightily impressed with that engine. Copy on the sunroof but hey, if it comes with it....!!

What are the different spec levels, if anyone knows?

    Cheers and thanks,
    Tricky

    I have a 2.7TDV6 L320 - series 1.

If I was to buy another L320 I would go the Series 2 update with the 3.6TDV8 but you will be pushed to find one as they were not sold for too long. Failing that the TDV6 which is the 3.0 in that model - it only has a little less power and torque than the TDV8 but the TDV8 sounds oh so good.

The basic specification is linked to the engine - basic is TDV6, next is TDV8 and highest is the Supercharged Petrol V8 - you will need to research the different spec levels - not necessarily the same as the equivalent D4 - also our specs are different to Uk specs so research AU sites.

Also remember you will need to consider your usage - the D4 is 7" longer in the wheelbase than the RRS and is a lot more boxier - the rear of the RRS slopes so you loose a bit of higher cargo area space. The RRS dash is sloped so feels a bit more comfortable that the very upright Disco dash - the Disco has more sockets etc.

So really it comes down to what you need - I just have me and the RRS is fine - if I had a family with a few rug rats and lots of camping gear then the Disco would be more suitable.

    Hope this helps.

Garry has it spot-on, I looked at RRS before buying my D3 but the interior wasn't suited for family use. The V8 Supercharged would be great but I don't think you can get an auxiliary tank for the RRS and filling up every 300-400 km would get tedious very quickly for me.

    G'day Tricky !
Mine is a 3.0ltr v6 , when I was looking this was the best driving one out of the limited number available .
i drove newer ,older and all engine versions back to back .

but I had set a dollar limit , really wanted a Nara Bronze Hse with a mocha interior ....ended up with a Buckingham Blue on Ebony basic spec !

iunderstood the gearbox was the weak link and shopped knowing that a higher Kay car came with ...baggage ... timing belts were done and now the trans . So , I guess next will be lower control arms and maybe air springs , then brakes .

i looked at trading it on a newer version , same colour 2014 hse version , just under 50km . But i couldn't justify the extra almost $40k . And mine was cleaner inside after almost 200,000km - my dad has sat in the back twice !!!!

if in 12-18 months maybe I'll be tempted - mmmmmmmmm Velar .

My aim with our cars is 300,000 km - we should be fine .

I cant seem to link to some brouchure s , but will do so in morning . I have them saved on my iPad and my work computer . A go-go-olge search will bring them up also .

Half the the fun is searching once a decision is made , and there is occasionally a bargain opposite up - Kyneton toyota had a random RRS recently , MLR at port Melbourne often has one . I think a lot were on 2 year leases and are up .

Economy is fine for a 2.5 tonne brick - I av approx 9.3l/100km , have towed our caravan it went up , To approx 14-15 .

Goes really well well for a big girl , it certainly can 'keep up with traffic '

Handling is as expected , it's a box on wheels ,but a very comfy box .

Heading to Tassie in a couple of weeks with the camper so I'm a bit excited !
