I have just returned from a trip to Port Gregory about 1- 1/2 hrs from Geraldton and the weather was pretty much Perfect
We fished Inside the large reef that surrounds this area and the fishing was rather good.
Most people that fish this area ignore the potential of the inner reef and steam right past it to fish the deeper waters offshore, Which is great for myself as a 12 foot tinny isn't really suited for off shore use here as the conditions here are usually too rough.
There is No boat ramp it is beach launch only and the entrance to the beach is usually deep soft sand so air down "Before" launching to avoid getting bogged and chewing up the track even more But the beach itself is usually quite hard on the northern end, The Southern end of the beach can get very soft so it isn't advisable to launch there.
There is a pretty good "Hole" at the Southern end of this natural harbour and I have caught some nice Tailor and Mulloway there at times But the beach can be very soft and sometimes quite difficult to access But thats why we bought Landrovers so that we can go to places like this
We caught;
Bluebone Groper
Spangled Emperor
Estuarine Cod
Chinaman Cod
Wrasse
Parrot fish
Yellowtail Kingfish
Samson fish
Fingermark's
Dart
Tailor
and Bloody Catfish
There was also a lot of Mullet for the netting enthusiast
All this in a two days fishing in an area that is mostly ignored and we could have achieved our Bag Limit within an hour But as I release most of my catch an only keep a few fish ( I HATE filleting) for the table.
.
Some Pickies
My Disco having a rest in the shade.

All in all a very enjoyable couple of days fishing and if you are living in the Geraldton area or just visiting this is a great spot for the dingy brigade to catch a nice feed of fish without having to brave the mostly rough conditions offshore.
