Well strictly speaking the term refers to a penny farthing.
One of the young blokes had seen these on the internet and decided to build one. A couple of free bikes and one from the trash & treasure for $10 and a bit of cutting/shutting & welding.......

Needs a bit of practice getting on and slightly more practice getting off gracefully. OK once you're up there but a lot further to fall if something goes wrong !!

Just pretend you are overseas , most other places don't have helmet laws !
Looks like fun though , is it stable once underway ?

Yes, I did the welding but had some problems with the steel frame of the lower bike, upper one had brazed joints and welded a lot easier.

Just pretend you are overseas , most other places don't have helmet laws !

Very stable once underway, his younger brother had a go and was up & riding first attempt.
He put BMX pegs on the rear axle, one foot on a peg, scoot it along then up and leg over the saddle and pedal.

Looks like fun, I wouldn’t want to fall off though, but I bet you’d only do that once.

He managed to flip it backwards (probably trying to pull a mono) and landed on his knees on the grass ! Got up and rode round the garden again, wouldn't have done that on asphalt or concrete though....

I may need to find another couple of frames as the steel of the lower bike is cracking round the welds......

Looking at some pix on the web , and got thinking , could you have the top crank set drive a fixed cog to then drive the lower crank ? Obviously the two would need to be on opposite sides of the frame , but it would almost be like a transfer case , allowing a whole different set of ratios. Not necessary but if going to the effort to const the frame , a bit more eccentricity wouldn't go astray.

This bike has been parked under a tree for a few years if anyone is interested, the young bloke has moved on to various cars.

The next bike I need to make for the local Scout group is a reverse steer.
I have a couple of gears, just need two bikes off hard rubbish.
Local events they can challenge people to ride between two points (only on grass). Problem is someone will raise OH&S issues !

At school I knew a guy called Winston who made a tall bike, he was amazing on a bike, I saw him ride a bike down a steep hill like a skateboard by standing on the top tube!
