    Part Ordering Confusion

So I understand Genuine, OEM and Aftermarket or I thought I did.

I searched for part number RNB501580 (D3 front air strut) on LR Direct.

    I got 5 choices.

Brand LR: Original Part From Land Rover UK: 2 Year Warranty: Supplier Britpart: Price $542.67
Brand Land Rover: Original Part From Land Rover UK: 1 Year Warranty: Supplier Land Rover: Price $661.53
Brand OEM: Supplier Britpart : 2 Year Warranty: Price $242.11
Brand Original Equipment: Supplier All Makes: 1 Year Warranty: Price $258.77
Brand Dunlop (Branded Original Equipment): Supplier All Makes: Warranty 1 Year: Price $246.29

There are 2 Original Parts from Land Rover: Different suppliers, warranty and prices.
Then there is OEM, Original Equipment and Branded Original Equipment (Dunlop).

In theory OEM should be the same as Genuine Land Rover without Land Rover branding but some members still purchase genuine. So is there a difference?

    What does it all mean……..

Just because an item is made by the original equipment manufacturer it doesn't mean that the item is made to the same specs and materials.

Different suppliers of the same parts, genuine or otherwise, may not be charging a distributor's recommended retail price.

Yeah some of it is nonsensical. Same genuine part offered cheaper with twice the warranty?
I also love that there is a brand called Original Equipment that has nothing to do with being OEM. I’ve had mixed experience with non-genuine with some being as good whilst others clearly inferior.

    Brands

I have seen some brands online called "Genuine" brand. Sort of like the Toyota oil filter knock- offs. Be careful with online descriptions.... it's uncontrolled; unlike gear you find on the shelf in Aussie retail stores (marked correctly by law).

As of the middle of 2017 I was advised by the chap at Advanced Factors in the UK that only one UK company was still making replacement air struts for the D3 & D4.

"Two types of struts Dunlop (made in China not very nice quality) and the BWI ones which are commonly known as Delphi units which are the same as Land Rover sell."

And Advanced Factors sell the BWI. I got the whole set.
