    They wouldn’t know.
And it must be shown to be the cause/a contributor of the accident to deny a claim.

However it does technically render it unroadworthy.

Personally, I would call your insurance company and ask them that question...

I'd call them too, and get it in writing (or record the call) if you can.
What I think you'd find is that the insurer will not pay a claim 'where the vehicle is not in a condition where it would meet the registration requirements in your state' (this is quoted from a NRMA PDS for their comprehensive policy). By inference, a vehicle without all necessary pollution control gear could be knocked back at rego, likewise a manufacturer could not release a new vehicle without these pollution control measures.

I'd be surprised if a de-cat mod would pass muster for the insurer, if you were to honestly discuss the modification with them. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong. If you get it in writing, post it here

    Decat pipe and insurance

    That applies to almost anything...
EGR kits, Remaps, Decats, Wheel carriers, Air intakes, driving lights, tyres, tint, lift, axle weight.

Example: One section of ADRs states *any* change to the exhaust is not allowed - so aftermarket replacement is out..

Keep in mind too, Remaps and tunes are required to be declared to your insurer also, how many do that?

Changing tyres from the factory rubber to a set of Muddies can render a vehicle not compliant for registration. (Originally One reason Jeeps ‘full offroad spec’ Wrangler wasn’t imported was it couldn’t meet registration in Australia).
