    oil in hub bearing assembly

I noticed some floating in the steering wheel of my 110, I found the problem after checking the wheel bearing ply and decided to correct the situation.

On one of the hubs the wheel bearings where still packed with bearing grease but the other side was full of oil that I suspect is coming from the swivel pin housing.

Watching this video added to my confusion, since they say that some model have the bearing lubricated by the swivel pin housing oil while others are not. It is impossible to have a differential fitted with both models.

Swivel pin housings fill, level and drain plug.differences, one shot grease and EP90 - Land Rover - YouTube

So do I have an oil leak from a hub seal of do I have a defective lubrication on the other?

Could it be the seal has been remove from one stub axle and not the other.

On my previous defer I switched to one shot grease and continued greasing the Bearings.

How much play did you have in the wheel Bearings.....I’m thinking it would have to be massive to make your steering float.

Previous defer I did 250000 on here same set of bearings and never had play in the bearings between services.

For the rears, when I converted to maxi-drive axles I followed the instructions and coverted oil lubed bit still fully greased the bearings.

My guess is that the axle housing seal has failed and you now have diff oil through to the bearings which mean the swivel is now full of diff oil.
At that vintage it would have happened over a fair period of time, doubt very much if you have a factory oil and greased variation.
Unless a previous owner never finished the job?

Have a look at the swivel seals from underneath, the greased side should look dull and fairly dry.
The side with the oiled bearings should look shiny and possibly wet or weeping.

1989 should have oil lubricated wheel bearings, although at this remove it may have been changed. If there is only grease in one side, my next thought would be "is there any oil in the swivel?". Oil lubricated bearings are assembled with grease for initial lubrication, but over time, this will be gradually mixed with oil from the swivel (or diff at the rear).
