There's a hex inside the pin.
Use an allen key to hold the shaft.
A trap for new players, and a much better solution than the flats most use.

SupporterHi team. Have spent the past few hours removing an old steering damper on my 300Tdi project. I have replaced it with a nice shiny new Bilstein.
My problem is I am unable to tighten the lock nut. As soon as the nylon bites the shaft rotates as I try to tighten. Even if I push up or pull down on the damper to apply some tension the shaft still turns.
What’s the trick to ‘lock’ this so it can be tighten?

I’m not keen to remove the damper as it took a long time to get the bolt through the other end and that was driving me nuts too.
Any shared wisdom?
Cheers
