			Heater matrix bypass

I have a 200tdi defender the heater matrix and hoses are all due to be replaced, old and perished, im thinking about bypassing the heater matrix and then removing is completely from the engine bay. Reasons being the fan for the heater is stuffed so im looking at quite a lot of money to replace both hoses, new matrix and the most expensive bit the fan motor. Before i remove it though has any body had any luck replacing the fan with a fan out of a different car, cheaper than the defender one? And do you guys think the engine would run hotter with the matrix removed, just from having that room for more coolant removed even though the fan isnt working to dissipate heat from the heater core?

A new OEM fan is $100. IMO, not worth the effort of farting around doing something custom... RTC4200 | Heater Blower Motor and Fan Def - Land Rover Part RTC4200 That said...are you sure it is dead? It is common for them to get jammed with dirt and just need a wash. It is also common for there to be an electrical issue, in the switch or a connector.

You can just loop the hoses or blank them off if you don't want a heater. It will have no impact on the engine.

I was in the same position as u with mine as my motor was well and truly stuffed. I end up going down to the wreckers with my old one to see if I could find one out of another vehicle that would do the job and I did. I.
Can’t remember exactly which vehicle but it was from a Holden Ute or commodore I think. Fitted perfectly and has been working perfectly ever since.
My heater matrix was fine but the housing had some rust holes which I roughly treated and patched up and it all works well. I removed the rubber bung that is suppose to let any incoming water out as it was clogged up and had let water into the fan area. Remove the bung and all has been well ever since

No heater-demister means the car is considered unroadworthy if it was built after 1971. One used car dealer trick to get an RWC was a 12v. hairdryer hidden up under the dash and plumbed into the ventilation system, wired up to the switchgear and the inspector would get a current of warm air when he tried it out.

I tried putting power to the motor and didnt get anything. In saying that i havent removed it yet, it could very well be blocked with crap. Im thinking it will be easier to fix it properly. Has anybody used silicone type hoses for cooling systems ?
