Hazard lights coming on rough roads

I live in far north Queensland and love taking TD5 110 Defender on missions all over the place. Up this way there possibly the worst corrugated dirt roads Ill see. And when travelling on these roads you need to keep the speed up to fined the sweet spot for a some what smoother ride. Still hitting holes at high speed triggers a senor which turns the hazard lights on. And the only way to stop it is to turn the car off then back on. Does anyone know where this sensor is and can it be rewired to delete this sensor?

You are living in the most beautiful part of this country!! The sensor is part of the alarm unit behind the instrument cluster. A green box about 70mm by 100mm . It switches on the hazards to make the vehicle visible after an accident. Usually the sensors fail in this manner by becoming sensiyive to normal defender activities like rough roads and there are some people apparently who have been able to remove them from the curcuut board.

Have you tried lowering your tyre pressures to help with the insane rattling on corrogations?
I find that dropping out 10psi will have a very marked effect on corrogations

I think I'll use some foam-backed sticky tape and then screw it to the firewall so there's something of a 'cushion' effect. I think i might cover the whole board in Glad Wrap or similar too, in order to protect it from the almost inevitable water damage at some point in its life.

Will report back once done and tested.

Yeah defently just when your traveling all day on these road theres always going to be some hard hits

So Im led to believe its this sensor under the bonnet which has come free and by the sounds of things can become sensitive over time too

There is a similar setup in the D1's where the re-set switch is in the enginebay on the bulkhead. I got my auto sparky to shift the switch to my aftermarket instrument binnacle on my dash. The last time I set mine off I was on the Tanami Rd coming back from Wolfe Creek Crater and I hit a large washout avoiding a roadtrain in the pouring rain. It was much nicer turning off the hazards by hitting the button in the cab rather than getting under the bonnet and getting soaked in a tropical downpour!

That switch once activated will switch off the engine... its unlikely to be that inertia switch. As mentioned before the alarm unit will flash the indicators after an impact but the underbonnet inertia switch there will switch off the engine and fuel pump supply in defenders.

I had a look at this over the weekend and when I removed the right speaker, I found that the AS10 module was not securely attached to the firewall, one screw was almost completely free and the board itself had a lot of movement as a result of this, which I suspect is the culprit....after a big jolt, the board moves more than it should, thus engaging the inertia switch which trips the hazards.

I put some sticky foam behind the board and tightened up the screw (very fiddly if you don't take the dash off) so I'll get Monty off road soon and will give him a test. If it still doesn't work it might be time for a replacement AS10.
