    steering rack replacement

    folks,

my old 2007 D3 with 240 though on the clock i starting to feel a bit loose in the seering, its had wheel align done not that long ago without much improvement.

I'm starting to suspect steering rack & ends as getting a bit sloppy and possibly the lower steering wheel shaft too.

    Anyone done a replacement?
How difficult etc? Can't find much online about doing them.

    ta

Have you recently checked/replaced the lower control arms?
Once I replaced mine I felt a big difference.

I have a small clunk when I first set off in the morning when first moving the steering wheel left. It doesn’t return again during the day that I ever notice. Haven’t pinpointed it yet. Tried ARB bushes but that didn’t help.

suspect it could be the lower shaft U/J. My steering has become heavy and does not return to centre like it used to.

Still thinking the tie rod and ball ends need to be replaced. As for the seering rack I am not sure and don't know enough about the symtoms this would cause to make call on it.

Interesting. That’s Peter. I’ll take a look at that.

I'd like to do it myself if possible but seems to be a bugger of a job.
