Looking at it Colin, I’m thinking it would have been a great trip, and wishing I’d have been there. If anyone’s got info on exactly where they went, that could be handy

If you're looking at VIC high Country I'd be interested, I want to take Wallit (the Series III) up through Gaffneys Creek, Woods Point etc. (not exactly 4WD, you could do it in a Falcon)
Could head up via Aberfeldy, there are a few old gold mines I haven't visited for a while although some were challenging to get into & out of.
