    D4 without low range

I was in Japan over Christmas and New Year and was checking out the local D3s and D4s on-line, and there's some very nice low k examples over there. Then I noticed that some of them didn't have low range:

I didn't know that this was even an option, but evidently it was in Japan.

It was an option in the UK as well.

It's all about the image I suppose. People see someone in a vehicle which is generally for off road/posing and just assume it is a fourby but many never go anywhere near dirt anyway so why bother with having that capability.
No doubt that's reflected in the price.

    No low range

Not sure why the low range was omitted, but it's also possible that these were grey-market imports from the UK.

But on the bright side, the Winter pack appears to be standard.

Cost, pure and simple. Means they’re priced a little lower to compete with the local market. As has been said, most don’t go off-road, so don’t need low range. It’s about the image mainly. After all, they could just be a sheep and buy a Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero.
