    Transmission Problems | Advice needed

    Hey guys,
i got a long story with my disco 2 td5.
First of all, we broke down, the engine was running, the car could rev but no power came to the wheels. the underbody was covered in oil.
after an odyssey we got our drive and flex plate repaired, but now the car is only driving around 20 km/h max, it is probably stuck in first gear and there is like 40 percent of the power.
the garage told us it is the whole transmission and it needs to be replaced or repaired.
Did anyone had similar problems or could you tell me if the replacement/repair could be avoided somehow?
if my non-professional brain forgot some info, feel free to ask.

    cheers

Marc you might want to post this in the Discovery 2 section. This is the Series 2 section, cars from the 60s.

could be speed sensor related but unlikely if the speedo is reading close to accurately.

I suspect that its dumped the oil through a fractured oil line and in the process of doing so has burnt what was left of the oil and fouled a shift solenoid,

you might get lucky and a trans flush with a high detergent oil might solve it.
