Question D4 battery - where should the vent tube go and missing hold down clamp?

The battery setup on my MY12 D4 TDV6 doesn't look right:
    • there's a clear vent tube from the battery leading to nowhere
    • another random black tube which looks factory fitted and is open on the visible end
    • a loose long bolt which made me realise there doesn't seem to be anything clamping the battery down - what am I missing?

Anyone able to advise where/what the hoses should connect to/run to and what I'm missing for holding down the battery securely?

That’s been left in a poor state by someone. The bolt is for the hold down clamp. There should be two bolts and a bracket. The black tube plugs into the battery with the red elbow. The clear tube is not factory.

    Thanks Scott.

Found this diagram of the parts:

I'll need to measure which of the two bolts I have (either 147mm or 180mm - I suspect I have the longer one) and order the other, along with the YJF500110 bracket. I don't think the LR076318 piece is part of it too?

That's an easy fix then. I just removed the clear tube from the vehicle and connected the black on in it's place. The battery looks new so it seems some lazy tool did a half assed job swapping it over before sale...

do yourself a favor follow that tube to the end that lets the battery drip and extend it with some cheap hose, Ideally as far back and down as you can get it (including dragging on the ground)

if the battery vents its venting acid

Thanks Dave. Out of interest, have you found ones you've checked out to be too short or are you just making a general recommendation because it's acid venting?

It should only be gas venting. The vent is for the pressure relief valve and should only see gas escaping, if anything it all. If you can locate the original hose run you’ll be fine. If acid is coming out the vent it generally means the battery is being boiled Eg overcharged which is a bigger issue in itself.

The one in my Defender goes straight down through the floor to vent underneath, but I have no idea what is normal in a D4.

It's the 180mm bolt that I have here, so need to order the smaller one - XYG500061 < https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.p...ge_rover_sport >.

Local Land Rover dealer confirmed based on my VIN that it is part number YJF500110 that is the over the top hold down bracket that I need. Quoted price is $63.24 which about double of exUK < YJF500110 | BATTERY CLAMP TOP RIGHT HAND DRIVE - DISCOVERY 3 + 4 - RANGE ROVER SPORT | Land Rover | | Britcar (UK) Ltd >.
