    D3 Bonnet struts

So after working on it all week and finally getting it running nicely, I replace the battery today and I've had it on the charger for a couple of hours with the bonnet up.
I go out to check the charger and the f***ing bonnet is down. The gas struts have let go.

Apparently part number LR009106. Anyone know a local cross reference / aftermarket I can use to replace them?

I bought a set of tailgate struts from this place in October last year. So far so good.

I've never had good luck with that. They lose their gas when the seals go, and by the time you've replaced the seals and gassed it back up you're at or past the cost of a new replacement anyway. Twice I've had it done on other cars the struts have just passed the warranty period before they've let go again. I try and buy new where I can, and preferably local for warranty support.

If it didn't keep rebelling like a drunken teenager I wouldn't have to keep getting under the bonnet. Anyway, I did a couple of hundred Ks over the weekend, so it is getting driven.

I bought bonnet struts on ebay for my RRS about a year ago. They are good and I paid less than $25 incl postage for the pair

Went to McNaughtans. They don't have a direct X-ref for the Landrovers, but they made me up a pair on the spot.

    Gas strut 2x 40S-165S 8-18 230N M6x1.0 and 4 x 10mm P/pear cup 18mm cent M6x1 P2BB ends.
$45.10 in GST with 2 year warranty,

These are a heavier duty strut with bigger seals. Always happy to pay a bit more for "on the shelf" and local support rather than waiting for postage.

My struts had obviously been going for a while. The drivers side was completely collapsed and the passenger side didn't have enough oompf to keep the bonnet up by itself. The first new one I fitted held it up.

You now have to stand on the bonnet to close it? D3 Bonnet struts

I can tell mine are not far off, for the boot and bonnet. They’re both too easy to close. Might do the same as you.

This is the third time I've been to McNaughtans now and they've been nothing but excellent. It had slipped my mind when I posted the original request but after sleeping on it I went back and checked my Volvo receipts to find out who I used.

Most stuff is on the shelf and if it isn't they have made it up on the spot. If they don't have a xref then the most important thing is the compression strength of the strut, and the original Landrover struts had that marked on them.

They are also national, which is nice.
