Aerpro FP8409K Install kit to suit Landrover discovery 4 - allows aftermarket double

Anyone used the Aerpro FP8409K Install kit to suit Landrover discovery 4 < Aerpro | First Choice >? Particularly interested for those with the base model TDV6 with the factory LowLine audio system (that has the smaller factory LCD screen and no factory reverse camera or apparently any reverse camera compatibility).

Looks like the kit would allow the installation of an aftermarket double DIN headunit which means even Apple CarPlay or Android Auto can be added (I'm liking the Alpine iLX-702D < iLX-702D Alpine Electronics of Australia > for this with Apple CarPlay Wireless, built-in or external bluetooth microphone, reverse camera and SWC compatibility it ticks our requirement boxes - as a bonus even has DAB with the add on antenna) while retaining the factory steering wheel controls using the included Steering Wheel Control Interface and Universal SWC Patch Lead.

My main concerns are:

1. It has the clock relocation panel but our D4 (MY12 TDV6) doesn't have a round factory clock on the dash.

I wonder if it's possible to fit one from a later model - it is just a power feed line that's needed for it? I assume it's more complicated than that though as it looks like it might have six pins on the connector and doesn't have adjustment buttons on the clock face itself. I guess one option is to source and fit a second hand clock even if it doesn't end up telling the actual time it would still fill the hole...

2. The handsfree mobile phone bluetooth in the D4 is amazing - best I've ever had/used/experienced for clarity for both ends of the call - wonder if that would be lost with an aftermarket headunit?

I reckon you would defiantly loose quality if you went aftermarket head unit, but you may be able to retain the Land rover blue tooth some how. If your driving through Sydney get in contact with Cameron at Old jaguar, he's a gun with stereo upgrades

Good research. I too don't have a clock (the time is displayed in the non touch screen), but the manual at the top of page 5 at item 14 says:

Note: if retaining the original clock, reconnect it now and install it into the new fascia panel during Step 5. If not, the included blanking panel can be inserted into the fascia panel.

I assume it retains AM/FM in addition to DAB? I didn't notice any reference in my quick look.

Your second find is no good to me - only for 2012 MY onwards.

I looked at these when they first came out, the wiring interface in the kit is only suitable for the high-spec system, with factory touchscreen, and MOST fibre optics, not the low spec system.

It's a useless product.

Don't know if it is a recent initiative, but is it possible they have rectified this with the following excerpt from their site? I'm also particularly interested cos I have a My 10 non touch screen poverty pack.

Note: A Secondary Harness and Patch Lead (unless a universal Patch lead is supplied) is still required, these are specific to the aftermarket headunit being installed, we suggest using the appropriate APP9 kit or APP8 if a universal patch lead is supplied in the kit.

Secondary harness is what plugs into your new head unit, gives you ISO plugs to connect to the Aerpro harness.

Patch lead goes from the new head unit to the steering wheel controls interface.

Problem is the Aerpro harness has the connectors for the high-spec system, and a MOST fibre optic interface. The low-spec system is totally different.

Different car but the aerpro harness I used had iso plugs so will fit anything that has iso sockets built in , patch lead required for brand specific models.

If it only works with high spec vehicles then it likely is very useless as they'd be very little benefit/incentive to upgrade!

the manual

The manual indicates that the actual manufacturer of the product is Connect2 < Connects2 Ltd > and they supply just the mounting hardware. Aerpro are adding in those particular adapters and cabling so wonder if they can supply or get adapters to suit the LowLine models instead.
