can you guys help with photos and or explanations of the mechanism that opens and closes a spare wheel carrier on a defender.
i like the type that opens with the rear door a la mantec
but i reckon i can save $520
i searched and have plenty of detailed pics of the carrier itself but not of the closer mechanism
thanks,
david

thanks for that paul, just what i'm after.
i'm thinking of using trailing arms for all the pivoting points, just because i get damaged ones free.

I have a Mantec one on the back of the 90. And i have to say it is great and well worth the money. They are the strongest and smothset i have had so far. I have had a pic lock and a Bearmach one before

Paul - great pics - thanks. How much did you pay for that, and where could I get one from?

It was a while ago now, but from memory it was about $480 from Karcraft in Sydney.

Modman -- I am not sure what model Defender you have, but if post-2002 make sure you specify this when speaking with Karcraft or Bearmach.
They have just released a new one for the 2002 onwards door. The other great benefit of teh new model is that it does not obstruct the rear cross member jacking point (which the pre2002 carrier does, need to remove the spare wheel before jacking, bit of a PITA).

Where did you get the Mantec unit? They are undoubtedly the best unit for a Defender.
