    RRS 2007 transmission issues

Hi - I'm getting the gearbox reporting "transmission fault limited gears available" but not all the time. If I drive gently it will mostly go ok and fairly smoothly up and down the gears - if I give it a bit of a squirt then the transmission will usually eradically jerk up and down gears and I'll eventually get that fault message - along with an "F" on the dash where the gear number is normally shown if you're selecting manually. I can drive for an hour or so without the fault if I drive gently - but not always.

I changed the oil (not a full flush) and pan etc the other day - but not sure if it was better before then - it was a bit hard to tell as I had a split intercooler hose taped up that kept blowing off the tape - so wasn't really testing it before hand. New hose arrived now and engine runs well.

But I did use a non genuine oil the ZF retailer (not ZF themselves- motospec) recommended as it was half the price of the original ($200 for 10l instead of $400). They convinced me it would perform the same.. they sold both and were a transmission place that supported ZF...

Did I muck up using a different oil? Any other suggestions?

Get the relevant stored fault codes, and report back. It will all be guesswork otherwise....

To get the correct level I fill them with a scan tool plugged in reading trans temps. From memory oil should dribble out the fill hole at about 70-80 degrees, but don't quote me on that temperature.

Ok to cut a long story short... i got the iidtool now after getting a faulty one and having to wait for a replacement

The gearbox has been better lately and hasn't faulted at all until I towed the caravan to litchfield on the w/e (2.5t). It would sometimes go into F mode with limited gears - and wouldn't go above 4th gear when it happened. Restarting the engine would reset this.

The faults I get are P0730 and P0735 - Gear 5 incorrect gear ratio. From a bit of googling it seems that its probably a physical issue that needs to be fixed or replaced?

The 2 codes were a week apart according to the dates logged. I have cleared them for now but took a screenshot of them.

Have a read thru EricSDV6's post about his trans issues and valve body rebuild, unless you are getting the shuddering of a failing torque converter i would look into the valve body for your shifting issues.
If you search the net its a well documented issue in any vehicle that these boxes are fitted to.
