2.2 Defender Rear Engine Oil Leak

    Hi all,
I'm trying to diagnose a minor oil leak that I've noticed around a year ago, seems to be coming from either the intake manifold, the cam carrier or if my mechanic is right, the EGR. He's told me just to monitor it but its now leaking enough to have make its way down to the bell housing.

To me it seems up too high to be the EGR and as the image from the right rear of the engine shows, it's too low to be something like the valve cover. Before I go buying gaskets and pulling all the gubbins out that's in the way, I thought I'd see if anyone else has seen this before? My searches haven't yielded anything besides a few BT50 owners reporting failed injector seals, leaking out a port at the rear of the cam carrier which I can't verify if the LR 2.2 even has.

Get a BAS remap which will turn off the EGR and make you wish you didnt do it sooner.

The 2.2 has its cam driven vacuum pump there, and the O ring can eventually leak where it seals to the back if the head.
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Had a leak on a 2.4 and it turned out to be the seals on the manifold. Like yours it was running down by the bell housing and mine then gathered around the sump and dripped down. It took a while to figure it out!

The BAS remap is definitely on the shopping list, still deciding on whether to push for the higher output or just be content with the modest boost and remove the EGR. Decisions decisions!

Thanks JustinC & spudfan, I'll have a look for the vacuum pump first up. I couldn't see anything in the manuals but will have a better hunt. It's a fair amount of oil which if it is coming out of the intake, I might have to hurry up on the planned EGR delete
