D4 Headlight LED highbeam & HID low beam conversion issues

Hi have a 2012 D4 and I’m having intermittent electrical glitches, even without headlights switched on.

It all started when I converted Hi beam to LED and Low beam to HID.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Trying to workout if it’s coincidence or because of my conversion.
Aircon shuts down then comes back after a few minutes.
Side mirror adjustment shuts down then comes back on.
GPS shuts down (along with radio and connected phone but restarts eventually with GPS units changed from metric to miles)
Blinker arrows on dash and audible click stop working, but indicators lights continue to operate when needed.
Headlights still work.
Rear view camera stops working sometimes.

Yes I’m going to swap both back to halogen and test, and take to my local LR specialist if the prob persists.

Hard reset doesn’t fix.
Problems occur during the day without headlights on.
If anyone can let me know of LED/HID aftermarket conversion issues I’d be much appreciative. There are no blown fuses but I’m wondering if there is/are self-reset circuit breakers in the system somewhere??

That sounds like a more serious electrical system issue, have you checked alternator and battery charge status?

HID conversion requires special ballast and control modules, usually provided with the HID light kit, plus the car needs to know it now has HID lights instead of std. My D4 has HID Xenon lights (factory) plus the bog standard H7 halogen globes for high beam. Not a good match in my view.

I changed my interior lights over to led except for the front driver and passenger puddle lamps, as these doors are modbus controlled and needs the additional resistance from the lamps to know the system is working, otherwsie it thinks that the globes are non existent.

Could be the same for the headlights but I'm not sure.

The LED H7 high beam globe upgrade system I'm looking at from Stedi include the required CANBUS cancellation module built in to allow a smooth swap. Check out H7 LED Headlight Conversion Kit Copper Beltd.

I've now ordered several things from Stedi and all great gear and support.

Have you checked your LED upgrade is legal under ADRs? It used to be illegal to replace halogens with LEDs. This can affect roadworthiness and insurance.

Sounds more like a wiring issue, perhaps a rubbed cable somewhere shorting or earthing intermittently.

I know changing OEM headlights from Halogen to Xenon required a CCF change but I think that was only to get the start up pulse and to command the hi-beam shutter. If you are changing only low beam it probably just needs juice (as in electricity).

Your H7 halogen lights are not high beam in themselves - the shutter on the Bi - Xenons provides both low beam and the main hi beam. The H7 halogen lights only provide a fill in function covering areas missed by the Bi - Xenon high beam. If you took out the H7s and not replaced them you would still have hi beam in your car.

Thanks Garry, yes I stand corrected. Even so the colour difference between the bi-xenon and h7 is enough that I want to change the h7s to led to get closer to the bi-xenon colour output. I also run a single row led light bar fitted between the 'bar uprights, this gives great long distance light.

On a related topic, I noticed that the bug eye lenses of the bi-xenon lights appear a bit cloudy, can these be cleaned with say an alcohol swab?

I think the "projectors" are supposed to be cloudy.

As far as the H7s are concerned - just get a 55w after market HID kit off ebay in the colour globes to match your Bi -Xenons - the ballast will fit inside the light housing held in place with velcro dots. The downside is that because of the light up time of the HIDs (and Bi-Xenons) you loose effective headlight flash capability - provided in your vehicle by the halogen bulbs.
