S2A Tyres - options and where?

    Hi all,

I've searched but not really found a recent answer,

Need some new tyres for my S2A renovation - the current tyres fitted are LT 215/85 R16 Hankook Radial T24's.

Planning to sandblast and repaint the rims as part of the process.

I'm after a All Terrain tyre in keeping with the "chunky" style of the period...at a reasonable cost.

I've visited a few tyre joints and the options are limited - the best I can find is a Kumho MT 51 - but still $280 a corner.

Does anyone have any hints and tips for a good older style and source?

    thanks

    Col.

Careful switching to crossply to get a period tyre, most of them are 14ply and ride way too harsh for a Series. In a cross-ply 6ply is right for a SWB , 8 ply for a LWB Series.

Why don't you flip the Hankooks & put the white lettering on the inside.

Antique tyres have a good range, I bought some 6.50-16 6 ply , $285 each STA Super Traxion , but Ive switched to AT's . Have a look at this

The new Toyota Troopies come with a 225/95/16 which is the same height of a 7.50R16 just a little wider.
These tyres can often be bought for under $100 each

I recently fitted my 2a with Bridgestone Desert Duellers 7.50x16 from Bridgestone themselves, but they were over $300, even on special, and getting a bit hard to find.

The older Troopies came with 7.50 X 16 Road Grippers.
They sometimes still come up as complete sets on split rims. I recently got 5 virtually new on rims for $350
Rims, even though new, are hard to sell.

Worth checking Gumtree or the nearest tyre shop to your local Toyota dealer.

The ‘take offs’ in that size are hard to get now.
The 225/95/16 is what they come with now and are plentiful

    Thanks gents,

Looks like the 7.50 16's are the way to go and as mentioned above, there are quiet a few on gumtree and eBay - event lightly used ones on rims.

I will continue to look until I find a set,

    thanks again,

So....fund these at a local supplier. 225/95 R16's which is the same diameter as a 7.50 R16 (I held one up against it and same overall diameter) and brand new off Toyota drivers who throw them away new. The dealer has dozens of them. $140 with the rim or $120 without....bargain!

Yep they are the ones I was talking about.
Also the Toyota Rims are 6” wide so should still suit the 5.5” wide Landy rims S2A Tyres - options and where?
