Do D1s really age that quickly?

So I've been looking for a D1 V8, and have seen some really ordinary cars so far. About 10, of which only a couple didn't have the whole list of bad paint, falling rooflining, curled dash and rusted Alpine windows and rust under the door window seals. All had at least a couple of these problems.
What I thought was going to be a pearler of a car ('98, 130k, full logs $10k) had what appeared to be a rust bubble in the middle of the firewall and on the bottom of the left A-pillar. Trouble with rust is the stuff you can't see...
A word of warning to anyone thinking of buying a car on eBay. I have gone to see a few D1 that were advertised there, and all I can say is let the buyer beware. See the cars first.
Do I have even a remote chance of finding a nice D1 V8 man with low-ish kays for $10k? :?

Where abouts are you located? There has been one for sale in Bathurst near me for a while now, they have $7500 on it i have had a quick look at it in a carpark a while back and it looked straight, and being a country car it didnt appear to have any rust. If you are interested let me know, you would probably get it cheaper than $7500 as they havent had much luck selling it (fuel prices would be to blame there). I know where the people live as i have driven past it several time on the way out the uni with the other half so finding it shouldnt be a problem.

To answer your question, no they dont, or they shouldnt. Age has an affect on all things, especially cars, but mine is a 98 model with 200000km on the clock and aside from some brush scratches in the paint it is perfect inside and out. It all comes down to how they have been cared for. matt

Almost bought one today, a 96 ES with 191k km for $7.5k... till I realised it needed more than $5k spent on it in the short term.

Then saw a couple good ones, but waaay to expensive. 55,000km '98 for $15k firm? Yeah a nice car but you can get a nice D2 for that these days...

Still lookin'... so anyone hear of a nice D1 V8 man in Sydney with low kays, let me know.
