    Knock Knock

    Anyone had this issue?

Have about 80K on the D4,and it has a knock when the front right wheel goes over a rather large bump. Its not a metallic noise, like metal on metal.
Doesn't happen on the black top, only going along tracks, and the bump has to be fairly large.
Left front and rears no knock.

    Had a good look underneath,everything seems tight,nothing worn,but i am no expert.
MR did the last service not long ago,and they are onto everything, nothing reported.

I am thinking maybe shock, which is in the airbag?

Don't know if i just leave it until it gets worse or get it sorted.

    Any ideas would be good.TIA.

Disco-tastic reports in the wheel wobble thread symptoms like you describe as steering rack.
I haven’t experienced it personally. Hopefully not but no matter what it’s a good feeling when found.

    80k could be lower arms.

At extended height it always seems to have a bit more knock but worn LCAs would exacerbate this.

Lower control arm rear bush. It's oil filled. When they get low on oil they knock. Bush will look perfect but will of gone soft.
It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power

Brand new to the right and completely knackered to the left - nothing different visually.

Pry bar soon shows the fault.
Lift the front, wiggle the arm.
    You’ll soon know.

Could be steering rack ends, LCA rear bushes or sway bay bushes.

Be best to Jack up the front end and get under there with a pry bar and wiggle some stuff around. No much point doing it with the wheels on the ground as they wont really move.

Rack ends are about $350 each fitted at my indy, sway bar bushes were about $200 fitted (that was a while ago so may be different now) and the bushes vary from $250 for parts if you do it yourself (new bushes and bolts) to $1500 to pay someone else. Also, double or triple those prices if you take it to a dealer...

Thanks for the good advice,a look on U tube, and there is also good vids on how its all done.

Mine are probably just starting to go,as only one side knocks, and only on big bumps. Some wouldn't even notice the noise.

It has done a heap of miles on corrugations.

Anyway, will get it off the ground and have a look at it on the weekend.
