Hi guys,

Ordered a set of Johnson Rods a few days ago and now I am about to ring around and price a set of 5 x BFG ko2 tires. Hoping to fit 275/65/18 on standards rims, has anyone done this?

Also is it possible to tell if your timing belt has been change in a previous service? I have just purchased the car with 160k on the clock and want to make sure it has been done.

I do a lot of long distance trips with a young family and want to make sure the car is as bulletproof as possible so will be going over the car in depth over the next few weeks.

Not by looking at it.
Service receipt or checking with whom ever serviced it previously. Presume you have this info?

Regarding tyres. There's heaps of threads on tyres. Use the 'google' search function on the bottom left of the page.

Based on the thread below. The widest 65 profile tyre you an fit is 265. Ive had the 285/60/18 and they work OK but do rub.

The belts are due to be done at 168,000km or 7 years whatever is the earliest - if you bought this car with 160,000km the odds are the belts have not been done and maybe that was the reason it was sold then to save on this cost.

As mentioned if you have no documentation indicating it has been done then you have to assume it needs doing.

Maybe go a smaller size on the tyres will do some research during the week.

Booked in for a timing belt Change tomorrow my local land rover deal has a discount price on atm of $1500 so will just get it done.

Also just climbed under the car and see the plastic transmission cover so I will source a metal pan and have a go at doing that myself maybe over the weekend.

Anyone know of supplyer in Perth?

The rear belt also has to be done at the same time.

I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in my timing cover above the L/H cam gear . Rotated the engine untill I csme across the belt markings. All timing belts have a manufacture date. I then plugged the hole with a blanking grommet. Now I know I've got 40 odd k to go.

Re tyres, plenty of info on here, the Wrangler duratracs are popular, as are the Maxxis 980’s, Cooper Zeons and Pirelly ATR, all available in 18 and 19” sizes. Pretty sure you know that the 2.7 can run standard 18” rims, the 3.0 can’t because of the larger front brake calipers.

definitely get the fuel pump belt done too, good deal if LR is doing that as well for the quoted price, there’s a fair bit of stuff to remove to get to it, so may as well whilst they’ve got access.

make sure they check the front engine seal (crank seal), they confirmed to me that they check and replace if it’s weeping, it’s a $30 seal, but requires about $1000 of labour to get to it, as both the accessory and timing belt has to be removed to get access.

check out Automac Transmissions | Perth's Trusted Transmission Specialists or ring ZF in Malaga, they have a distribution warehouse (I forget the name atm) but you can get most parts online too, all genuine ZF. eBay is your friend. Plenty of info on steel pan and filter conversions on here too. Make sure you get the serial number off the transmission (passenger side up on the side) as this details which type. Your 2.7 should have the 6HP26 transmission, some may have the 6HP28, but they’re usually on the 3.0l as they’re rated for a higher torque value. Note that the same units are fitted to BMWs, just search for your ZF unit code online.
