Headlights keep blowing

Does anyone have a probem with the halogen headlight globes dying quickly?
I have had to replace 3 in under 12 months.

Hi Bill,

Apparently it is not uncommon for this to happen but personally I've never had one fail in 5yrs of ownership (touch wood)!

Make sure you don't touch the globes with your bare hands when changing them & also wipe them with a tissue before installation.

It might also be worth checking the alternator output, just in case.

My experience with trucks is double check conection are tight and the earth is good. Cheap globes don’t last either.

Yes I am but I don't do much night driving, although I do have them on auto most of the time & they come on at the sight of a shadow, so do get a lot of use!

Can you not access the settings & adjust the sensitivity through OBD2?


Is your windscreen Sensor location pretty crappy thereby giving a false initiation? Sometimes folk stick adhesive stickers over them.

No adjustment possible in the CCF as far as I am aware.

I'd have thought covering the sensor would have the opposite effect to be honest.

Anyhow this is not helping the op.

I don't know why you would think that, as you claim the lights are coming on because they are too sensitive. Creating a false darkness with crap on the sensor would do this.

Covering it would sort of be 0200 darkness.

The light sensor is combined with the rain sensor. They are built in to the interior mirror mount against the windscreen, in the area swept by the wiper blades. This is another 'known' issue with some FL2s & one that I can live with.

I only mentioned it to help the op, not to start another topic & hijack his post.

Never thought you were, B51, & in turn, I was trying to help with the problem but not being aware of the layout & individual conditions etc can make it difficult for anyone to help.


Btw. I read in some replacement instructions that not only should the bulbs be wiped clean but also with a tissue soaked in Metho.

The same applies to Halogen household security lamps as well it seems.
