    Engine light on - D3 TDV6 2007 EGR fault

Well I had the dreaded engine fault light on as I drove home from work. The vehicle performed ok. Nothing amiss I could detect and I have a good feel and ear for such things.

Got home and plugged in my GAP IID code reader and low and behold it came up with EGR faults.

Anyway I emailed the faults to myself then cleared them. The fault did not come back.
Rang the local landrover mechanic to see if it was ok to drive and he said yes. Advised to get a can of 3 Bond engine conditioner for Diesel engines which I got from Repco with RACQ discount.

Undid the air inlet from the air box just past the MAF sensor.
Put a stick on the accelerator to hold it at 3000 RPM and squirted the can in. Took it for a hard drive in sport mode and seems to be ok.

Will see how it goes tomorrow. Will take the GAP IID reader with me just in case.

Drover 33 km to work and so far still ok.

It will gradually get worse with the EML coming on more often - ultimately the EGRs will seize - hopefully when this happens they will be closed so no impact on the engine which will continue to operate normally (as if it was blanked) and you will only have the EML light on. However if they seize in the open position, exhaust gases will be going into the engine all the time making it run like a dog and lacking power - my car would not go over 80kph and of course the EML will still be on.

You need to start planning what you are going to do now.

when if that happens I will plan to have it sorted. I have a good LR mechanic in Hervey Bay.

Worst case it goes on the RACQ tilt tray to the mechanic, I give him some $$ to blank them and voila no problems.

Is it an EU3 or EU4? Mine is a late 2007 (MY08) EU4 and that needed a patch on top of the blanks.

Aug 2007 but classed as a MY08 so may well need the patch. If it persists I'll discuss options with my LR indy mechanic and see what he reckons.

So far it is behaving itself.

Noted thanks. I'd hope my LR indy would already have access to the patch and I won't need to outlay over $300 AUD.

    cheers
