Help! 2015 110 engine oil disappearing....

Hi all, my engine oil light came on yesterday and today and went away, checked oil level and I had the barest smidge of oil on the tip! Have only checked it a few times since it’s 80,000 service @ 74,000. Now at 83,000 and my oil has gone. Geezus, did I poo my pants! So put 1.6L of 5W30 and still NOTHING showing on the dipstick, not even a whiff. Nothing under the vehicle, no trace of oil leaking anywhere. Any ideas? Labour Day and LRA is closed.

Another check under the vehicle, a smudge of oil from the TC, but now drops. Some residue under the rear drivers wheel arch which I’m associating with fuel tank overfill probably from the breather. Otherwise no telltale rearward oil spray. Anyway I’ve now put in 3L of 5W30 altogether, waited and then took a punt and turned over the engine, no problems.....

    Wink

An update, if anyone is interested lol, I ended up putting in over 3L of oil in to finally get the dipstick to read after leaving it overnight. It reads just below half and I’ll keep it about there as it’s next service at LRA will be in 4K, and keep some oil in reserve of course in case I need to top it up. I’d have to postulate that my engine seems to use more oil when running on the 170BAS Remap, so something to be mindful of. Not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience. Needs more regular monitoring from now on to prevent further changes of undies 😁.

Personally, I always check the oil level before I leave the place where the vehicle was serviced. An acquaintance of mine left the dealer in his near new Lexus after a service. 30kms down the road, he was in need of a new engine. One service "technician" thought that the other one had refilled the sump!

*Try a 10W40 semi synthetic on your next service and see how it goes.
*Also you may wish to try FTC Decarbonizer (from Cost Effective Maintenance).
*Randomly I get in a last model Defender with oil consumption issues, the above, one or both generally will sort it out.

Yup I did this after I got home from it’s 80,000 kms service at LRA. I trust these guys and it was all good. I’ve checked it a few times since and tbh haven’t noticed any remarkable decrease, so I was surprised when it bottomed out. The only thing I could think of were changing from my 150BAS to 170BAS and the ambient temps over the summer. I have an EGT Redarc gauge however so I keep an eye on things.

Thanks Daz, I’ll give it a go!

    So we think it's blow-by?
3L is a lot to refill on a sump that only takes 7L.

    Consuming it Mitch.

Even just a different 5/10W-30 Daz.

I've seen one engine not like one 15W-40 and not use a drop of another.
Just what ring material/bore finish works with a certain oil blend.

    Thats some serious burn!!!

We've had the 170AB tune in for about 3 years and the level on the dipstick doesn't alter notably over 12k.
