I've been busy update- photos finally in.

Hi guys as i posted just before the who reshuffle deal i have been working on a retaining wall in the car port, i bar and BBQ is to come later on but the wall has to be done first, its taking longer than i thought as i only have a couple of hours a week to work on it and i aint no bricky.

I have nearly completed the 3rd course now, and will post the pics of the completed wall when its done and back filled.

BBQ will go where the weights set is.

Bottom course is sitting on a thick bed of mortar at the moment, i wanted to put bars into the slab to pile the bricks onto but the landscaping place said it wasnt necessary for a wall that high just make it lean back slightly. Matt

How many courses are you doing?Im no expert, but I would like to see more reinforcement then the mortar itself. How are you draining the water from behind the wall when it rains?Have you put in some agg pipe to get rid of it?And make sure you back fill with something free draining, not clay. Not criticising at all, wish I had that much energy, going to look great, but you want to make sure it stays there.

Hi crump, its only 4 courses high, the landscaping place gave me a copy of the council requirements for building one and all they required was that the footings were 600 wide and 300 deep, i made it 400mm deep just to be sure. I am going to lay agri pipe behind the wall when its done and tap it into the drainage system that was there, then i am going to back fill with 20mm gravel cover it with weed mat to stop the clay blocking up the holes between the pebbles and then back fill. There is going to be a planter box on top with a herb garden in it.

Hiline- mate please tell me if they have given me a bum steer, how should it be done? Matt
