I know there's been a few threads on this already - I've had a look, and my symptoms seem slightly different (although maybe the cause is the same??!)...
I was using my car around the house (moving trailer) last weekend. The tailgate latch started actuating (on it's own) repeatedly.
It did this many (50-100) times over the course of a few hours, whilst the car was running and turned off (ignition off).
When I closed the tailgate and then tried to unlatch it, the latch was unresponsive a few times, but I was eventually able to open it.
When I locked the car, it did not do it (repeated unlatching).
Maybe related - I had a low battery warning on my remote, and I put a new battery in straight away. The unprovoked unlatching happened 1-2 days after this, so the remote should have been fine.
I locked the car up, and it hasn't happened since. I used it once yesterday (first use since last weekend), and there was no evidence of the auto-unlatching that had occurred.
Is this evidence of a failing latch? I feel like it may be more to do with my remote or some other signal issue...

It could well be the microswitch in the upper door handle sticking, gently prise it out and give it a clean with contact cleaner. At least the actuator got a hood workout...
