Moving LPG Gas from inside to underneath

Hi Guys,

I've been on the lookout for a RR fitted with LPG gas.
I found one on eBay with 290k and have visited the chap. Seems like he kept it up well. He's put it on gas and has removed the fueltank underneath completely. Now, the only thing is the gas tank is inside, which robbs me of my loading space (kids, bikes, camping...).
Does anyone have any idea on how much it'll cost me to have it moved underneath? (Done professionally, as I'm not strong on welding, plumbing.)

You may need a new tank that fits underneath.

Can recommend some one in Syd. but I think your in Vic.

If you are running just LPG check tank size to give good travell range because LPG can be hard to find.

Professionally is the way to go ,work must should be certified.

On my RR I have the tanks (2) underneth where the original petrol tank was, gives me 72 Litres usable gas. Under the right rear quarter panel is a 40 Litre petrol tank. Not alot of petrol I know but if you use the petrol first and then the gas, you are always bound to find a petrol stop along the way.

I have the same setup as RR5L except i have twin sill tanks that give me a total of 90 ltrs petrol. Professionally fitted you would be looking around the $2000 - 2500 for the twin scuba tanks and a single pocket tank, more if you want sill tanks. As mine is setup i can get approx. 1000 k's for roughly $130 or so and still have all my internal space, even more so when i finish my spare wheel carrier. I got all my lpg gear second hand and cost me about $1200 and i fitted it myself. Unless you plan on keeping the rangie for a while it wont be worth the conversion.

Fitting is easier than you think. You will need to get it inspected and stamped still but it can save you heaps. The scoba tanks are worth heaps.

Cruiser, you are right. I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and there are quit a few shops doing conversions. My priority is on the budget, so I'm looking at just using gas.

RR5L, you say you have one main gas tank underneath in the middle (where the fuel tank originally was) and then a small petrol tank on the side. What shape is the tank and can you give an approx. price range ? The reason I'm asking is, the current gas tank is a cylinder and I'm not sure whether I can move it underneath.

Loanrangie, I'm planning to keep the RR for a very long time (as owning a RR has been a dream of mine since childhood). This one here has been on gas for about 3 years and has 290k on it. So I have a few options with using petrol or gas. Long distances are not a main concern right now, more the budget.

I'd love to hear some ideas on prices of parts and businesses you could recommend for the certification.

In NSW LPG tanks have a use-by date.
Was ten years
If you get a second hand one check it because having it tested costs and may be more economical to buy new.

You could try - dont quote me- Lynda's Landrovers is S.A, they advertise series one Discovery LPG conversion kits from wrecked Disco's for around $550 ?
It is who-ever advertisers in the Just 4x4 MAG- Bugger it, I just checked- $385.00 for side saddle tanks for Series one.
I am fairly sure they are the same for your Rangie.They can tell you.

The gas tank in the middle is actually two nested in a cradle. Talk to the guys at LPG1 in Lilydale for a price, mine was done long ago and was the complete conversion. I still have the original mixer and converter in the garage from then. I now have a Gas Research throttle body on the Holden 5L. As Loanrangie has already done, im fitting sill tanks underneath for more petrol capacity. Will transfer from them into the rear one. That way ive only got one high pressure pump onboard.
