should be fine spline. Changeover I believe was rear drums to discs.
My Maxi cattledog says
From app 1994 the Rover Type diff also uses this spline (24) in the side gear although this gear is about .004" tighter than the salisbury diff gear..
What year did defender (or county) diff splines change from 10 spline to fine spline?
or in other words will a 1995 def 130 front diff be 10 spline? or fine spline?
thanks
Jase

Hi Jase
Im no Defender Expert, but the Series3 had the 24 spline axles front and rear.As far as I know once they went to 24 spline that was it no more 10 splines.
It would have been a backward sted putting 10 splines in the Defender.
Im sure a learned "Fendercrat" will steer you in the right direction shortly.

only the Sals rear had 24 spline in any Series, the Rover diffs were ten AFAIK.Originally Posted by LandyAndy
Salisbury diffs were 24 spline from the start, both inner and outer. Series 2&3 fitted with Salisbury were also 24 spline on the front drive flanges (but the front diffs were still ten). Late S3 changed to 24 spline driver flanges even on 88s and this carried over to 110/90. The front (and on 90 rear) remained ten spline at the diff - but I think the four planet front diff optional front 110 and standard on 6x6 110 (and I think 130) always was 24 spline. At some stage the two pinion version changed to 24 spline, but as they are all interchangeable (for example my early 110 has a four planet front diff fitted ten years ago), so the only way of being sure what you have is to look - and I don't think you can do this through the filler hole!Originally Posted by rick130

Defenders had 10 spline fronts up until late in the 200tdis. The changeover point coincided with the fitting of ventilated discs at the front (instead of solids), bearings top & bottom of the swivels (instead of the Railko tops) and solid discs on the rear (instead of the drums).
All 300tdis will be 24 spline fronts.
