    It's getting up there!

On a trip to and from Perth over the week just gone my D4 HSE turned over 300,000km. I bought it new in 2011 and it has now reached what I reckon is a bit of a milestone. I have never previously kept a vehicle, for my primary drive, as long, nor for as many Km's as I have with this D4.
Seeing those K's tick over the 300,000k mark got me to thinking, where to now?
I am wondering should I keep it, or move it on and get something else a little newer.
That said, I could just keep plugging away with the D4, which, by the way, is not too shabby. It has only ever let me down once (recently and in fairness that was a brake light switch) so I really do not have lack of confidence in the D4. It has been serviced to the LR Arduous Conditions Schedule (13,000km intervals) from new, which is way better than the norm. If anything is has been over serviced. But I am still left wondering what may be around the corner if you get my drift?
Haven't really seen anything that takes my fancy at the moment.........but the old brain cells have awakened.........a little at least.

Well, I’ve a 2015 MY16 with 110K now and am mightily impressed with your mostly trouble free 300K! I can only hope that I have the same good fortune as you. Keep it going...........

Still original shocks, air bags, wheel bearings and fuel injection? You are coming close to the second change of timing belts.

What’s around the corner is still a damn site cheaper than a new vehicle. It's getting up there!

My 2003 Defender 130 single cab ute has just clocked 400,000.
Given there is no new option it has been decided at my age of 61 years that this old warrior will soldier on and will be required to carry me for at least another 20 years. (If I last that long)

We ordered a new Defender, and cancelled it a few months ago.
We’ve looked at options and pretty much given up on the idea of changing or buying another vehicle.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2 we have, they run like a dream and are in mint condition.

The financials just don’t stack up - it’s literally change for the sake of change (victim of consumerism at best) and we decided not to waste cash on upgrading and use the $$ to travel and do other things.

Even with my planned “mid life” on the D4, it’s only a $10k outlay for all new suspension etc.

The new Defer is soooo expensive (well when you use the online spec tool). Really hard to justify.

With the age and kms it's resale value is likely fairly low now. Personally, given that it satisfies your needs and requirements, that would make me look towards keeping it and extracting as much out of it as possible.

Aren't the timing belts due every 7 years / 168,000km? For a 2011 vehicle it would mean 2025 on time or at 336,000km (or which ever came first/combination of)?

Out of interest, what is on your 'to-do' list for the "mid life" refresh?

+1 for this idea Mike, I have made the same decision, 300,000km would be a dream outcome ......... Peter
