    New engine

Hello. I have a 2011 Defender which despite religious servicing has developed excessive blow by. After a recent diagnostic trip to local LR specialist they have recommended a new engine. It is a 2.4 litre Ford TDCI Duratorq. I have been recommended to do some homework on sourcing it myself to see what is available and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to purchase a new long engine?

Seafoam is pretty good as well, if you can find it.

If you want a long motor, reach out to Transit Automotive in Clayton VIC. not sure of current pricing but they quoted me a few years back $7k for a roll in drive out new long motor. If you have 150k+ on the engine, do the injectors (about $400 each) and inspect the fuel pump ($2400). Bailey Diesel sell recon fuel pump and blueprinted recon injectors (and turbos).

If you want a cheaper option pull the inlet manifold and intake and clean it. My intake was gummed up with carbon so bad it was like it a 3 pack a day smoker. Doubt it will solve the blow-by. that generally is worn rings.

They did mine a few years ago.
    Short engine around 5k,
    injector around 700 each,
    new intake manifold,
    rebuilt turbo around 1.2k.
    reused other accessories.

    Blow by

If your engine is starting fine cold and doesn’t appear to have lost any power give me a call and I will tell how to fix. Many a workshop have replaced 2.4 engines for this reason and did not need it.

    blow by

Can you give us more information on the problem. What are the symptoms, how did you detect it, is the engine using oil, did it come on suddenly, what sort of oil are you using, are you servicing it, or is it a dealer or mechanic.
