Vintage tractors the rage in Tasmania at Pearn's Steam World as volunteers power ahead

Vintage tractors the rage in Tasmania at Pearn's Steam World as volunteers power ahead - ABC News

While modern tractors boast space-age technology, air-conditioned cabs and incredible power, steam-powered tractors built over a century ago can still capture hearts.

In Westbury, in Tasmania's north, a diverse group of volunteers maintains one of the largest collections in the Southern Hemisphere.

They had some footage on Landline last night. Also showed a collection of old household appliances, such as old washing machines and clothes wringers. There was a Simpson with a wringer on top, and another which looked like a Lightburn, but could only see the back of it.

Pity they didn't turn it on, then you'd have known for sure. We had them in barracks back in another life. Things made a noise like a Boeing in full reverse thrust when the spin drum was running.

The same company made cement mixers. It was always a joke about them where I grew up about which was which.

I remember the mixers. Dad had one. But, do you remember the Zeta?

Reckon Albert should have stuck to mixers.. Still, I reckon a good (?) one these days would be worth a bob or two...

The early ones did not have a "skirt" on them, that came on the later ones.
