    Defender Accessories Help

    Hi
I am taking delivery of a defender 110 in May in Perth. I would like some advice on accessories to be fitted and where to source them. The questions that I have are:
    1. Bull bar - Is it work buying the LR roo bar. Are there any other options?
    2. Winch - it appears to be the Warn, the Zeon Platinum 10-S with remote control. Has anyone had luck with buying directly form WARD and getting LR dealer to fit it? Or do you need to by from LR to have it fitted by dealer. The price difference between LR and local suppliers is around $1,500. Does the LR kit also include other fitting accessories not included if you buy from elsewhere? Is the winch really needed.
    3. Roof Rack - I want a full sized rack and that is compatible with the side ladder option. Unfortunately the Front runner slimlineII is a good size but is not compatible with the ladder. Are there other options for a similar sized rack or can you make it compatible?
    4. Roof shade - 270degree awning that can have side walls installed.
    5. I have booked a slot to have it coated with XPEL. The few reports I have read it appears to work well, any thoughts!
    6. Any thoughts on spotlights.

    Thanks

    Happy to answer your questions.

I have the bull bar and the winch and the cradle. I would suggest you watch powerfuluk’s videos on YouTube. They give you an idea of the installation. It’s actually not that bad. I had the bumper and everything off mine in about 45 minutes. Do not cut any wire and instead use a fuse tap for the required crank sense wires. It’s all explained on the videos. Land Rover also provides free online installation guides.

You can buy all the parts from the dealer. Shop around as some will discount. There is quite a wait because of unfortunate people buying stock to sell to overseas markets like the US where the bullbar is unavailable. This has been stopped now with aggressive vin restriction, however supply will take a bit to come back.

I wouldn’t bother with other bull bars (not that I think any exist anyways), reason being is crash safety in regards to airbag activation and the crush canister (the collapsing boxes attached to the winch cradle).

With regards to the Warn winch, it may look like the same winch but in reality it is significantly different from the retail pack. It includes a separate over current module given that it is connected to the bus bar and not the battery. It is also fused which warn does not recommend but specifically for the defender it was engineered by them this way. The wiring and the looms are precut and terminated etc.

Would not bother otherwise, for this it’s worth getting the official stuff.

If you want a ladder there is one made by a company called lucky 8 off-road you should look at. You will have to import it.
The oem ladder is a gimmick.

Use extreme caution with the front runner full size rack if your vehicle already has factory roof rails, as there is a known issue with the nuts/welding on the other side (under the roof) breaking free while removing the OEM rails and then you have to drill them out and tap them. It’s a big pain.

Are you putting on an LR undershield while you have the front off ?

Already did. Although there are reports you can do it without removing the front I would just take it off.

It's pretty easy and fast. Surprisingly so.

    054DB - Domestic plug socket

Hello All - while we are talking about accessories, I've added the off-road pack to my P300 and as part of this pack, I have 054DB Domestic Plug Socket. I was wondering if anyone was able to use this to inflate a camping mattress ? What sort of appliances can be used using this plug and should the car's ignition be running while you're using the plug?

It can only support 180W load but other than that it's just a standard 230V AC outlet. It's only active when the car is in "on" state, but may not actually require the engine to be running. Couldn't use it for long without the engine though.

I wonder if this could be increased, by changing out the inverter for something with a bit mote grunt?

In theory sure, but you'd have to upgrade all the relevant 12V wiring for the higher current. Probably just make a larger inverter part of your aux battery build out – unless you just want more watts AC while the engine is running.
