NBN & their Battery
I AM POSTING THIS AS A WARNING
My daughter & husband started hearing a beeping noise which they thought was one of there Smoke Detectors . After searching they found the noise was coming from the NBN box. They rang the NBN only to be told the back up battery would be had it & to call there provider. On doing this they were told to remove the battery as they don't need it . When they removed the battery they found it to be swollen making it difficult to get it out. The NBN was already connected when they bought the house so they do not know how old the battery is. So is this just another expense we have not been told about with the NBN ? Do we really need a back up battery? How much will the new battery cost ? they did not tell my daughter that when she rang.
My biggest concern is could this battery exploded or caused a fire . I know our NBN box gets quite hot , enough that if you touch it it feels like it could burn you, From day one we have had a heat proof mat under the box to protect the wooden shelf it sits on.
Should the NBN & providers be warning us about the batteries , I would say the NBN was connected around 5 may be 6years ago .

Back Up is a great idea, pre-NBN if the power went out you lost your internet...
I run a UPS to enable my services to remain online.
As for warnings - really? are they concerned about their mobiles, their car battery, clock batteries, watch batteries, remote control batteries and so on?
The unit did give a warning - as you stated...

You may find the battery has a power supply connected instead of a battery charger (small plug in 240 units ) or regulator failed to cut out and kept charging had similar problems on a telemetry system

Our NBN FTTP at work has the port for a backup battery but one was never provided. Works fine without one.
