Ingenium engine family - Wikipedia
I don't think we've seen a lot of P300 in Australia. It does not have the electric supercharger or any electric drive assistance. It's just a 2.0L 4-cyl turbo petrol engine.
There are a lot of reports of the 2.0L "SD4" Ingenium diesel in the Discovery Sport and L462 Discovery "don't call it 5" suffering catastrophic failure after just a year or three. Something to do with insufficient oil pickup leading to extreme heat in specific parts of the cylinder wall and just blowing out under compression.
I'm crossing my fingers but also being very careful to stay on the good side with JLR Australia and the terms of the 5 year warranty so that if something bad happened to my D240 I would be taken care of. But I have also heard that the Defender carries the last and best iteration of the AJ200 (see the wikipedia article) engine and that the oil pickup problem has been resolved for this vehicle. We shall see. I haven't heard of a D240 or the 4-cyl D200 counterpart failing as yet.
Steven Firth (shedlock2000 on YouTube) initially had a P300 Defender and really liked it. When something went wrong with that vehicle his best option was to swap it for a P400 and he has *not* enjoyed that engine. It's been so bad that he's getting rid of it and buying a 2nd hand TDV6 Discovery (not) 5.
So far all reports of the six-cylinder diesel engines have been glowing, but there's not a lot of km on those yet and I think it's probably too early to draw conclusions. A boat load of those just arrived in Australia so give it a few days and we should get some fresh entertainment.
