Fuel usage improvement after ECU re-map

Had the ECU done earlier this year. Mainly to get rid of lag and any issues with EGR's. Have noticed a very smooth power application. No noticeable power increase but I never stick the boot in. However, have noticed a big difference in fuel usage. Just vehicle around town getting about 8.5-8.6 l/100k. Last two day was first time I've been able to take the caravan anywhere. It's a large van, 24ft and 3500 ATM. Towing weight at the moment probably about 3250-3300. Trip from 25km out of Bathurst, into Bathurst and up to Coonamble. Cruising speed about 90-93km/h. In the past fuel consumption towing van would be about 15.5-16.5. Now, 13.9 l/100km. Towing easily. Local Indie sent the ECU to some mob in Adelaide.

A lot of variables would come into to play when checking fuel consumption but in any case, good result for you.

True. I’ve travelled this route about a dozen times with the van visiting daughter and family. I’ve never had consumption as good as this. Whilst I realise lots of variables on any given day getting below 14 l/100km when cruising at over 90 is better than I’ve ever got in 5 years of towing this van. Will see how I go with return trip tomorrow.

Have you actually calculated the result yourself?

If not, it's worth doing - as a lot of tunes are done in such a way that they will show better economy but actually be worse.

If it IS actually better... Good for you!

    Cheers

Yikes, I hope not. I tend to just rely on the computer calculation. Bursting my bubble that the ECU re-map might be giving me fake news, lol. Will fill up in morning for trip back home and do the manual thing. Fingers crossed. With covid I've not been able to do any long trips to check long term towing.
