Water in fuel sensor circuit - P2264

Getting this error code - water in fuel sensor circuit - and then the restricted performance which kinda makes no difference in the drive of the D4, but could this just be some water trapped in the diesel fuel supply and thus involve fitting perhaps a new fuel filter or could i, should i just drain some fuel from the filter to clear error codes?

Drain it, but it rarely is an accurate error. You can but a new filter top section which fixes the issue. I bought a whole new assembly and removed the top screw in section and replaced mine, plus then also used the new genuine filter. Resolved my ongoing issues with this error

I'd also run a charge of diesel fuel system cleaner through (available from SCA) just in case.

Water kills injectors and high pressure fuel pumps especially the pressures our common rail runs at.

You can simply buy top component.

Has it been wet. When I first got the D3 I took it off-road on a rainy day and get the water in fuel error. Quite concerning at the time. Next day error had gone. Same deal going through Eli Creek on Fraser Island and also after an under body wash after coming off the beach. Appeared the sensor wasn’t sealed properly. It got wet, causing the error then drying and the error disappeared. Thought I might need a new sensor but once I replaced the fuel filter the the error stopped.

Another common failure , as above , replacement housing will sort it.

First answer is the best one, always drain it first and confirm it's not telling the truth. Then troubleshoot from there.

Another fun fact is the yellow sensor in the bottom of the filter is about 80% of the price of the whole unit that Jeffster quoted. And as he says, comes with a new filter. My yellow bolt is cracked so I ordered a complete assembly.
