    2A Stub Axle Oil Seal Collar - 2A '69

Hi Guys, I've replaced the stub axle oil seal collar which was fun to remove (Not!) and installed a new one. However, the stub axle doesn't slide fully back onto the new collar! I bought 2 collars and as in the attached photos the new collar are not flush with the back of the stub axle, whereas the old battered collar is flush. I got the collars/oil seal from All Four x 4 Spares (Part#599698). I also replaced the oil seal at the rear of the stub axle.

Did I install the wrong Collar/Oil Seal? Any help is appreciated!

I am not understanding your problem. From your pictures, the new collar is about 1mm thicker than the one that is replaced. While it may be a little concerning that it is not identical to the original, the only effect of this will be to widen the track by about 1mm, which is within the amount you could expect for manufacturing tolerance and wear on the inner wheel bearing. (It will also move the position of the brake shoes relative to the drum by the dame amount, but the same comment applies.

It is possible it is deliberately wider because some combination of seal and manufacturing tolerance allowed the seal to touch the flange of the stub axle.

Thanks John - All of that is not required if the collar/seal matched the original, right. My understanding and please correct if wrong, is that the stub axel should slide fully over collar/seal, not just half way?

As long as the inner lip of the seal sits on the collar it's OK and as John said......it might make the track wider by a small amount but that won't cause any problems.

Yes, exactly as Colin said. The wider collar still butts up against the inside race of the inner bearing, and the position of the seal relative to the edge of the collar is determined by the bearing and the lands in the hub. Seal performance is the same regardless of the width of the collar.
