    XTM 7 Piece Recovery Kit feedback

    Hi AULRO,

    Does anyone in the community have and feedback on the XTM 7 Piece Recovery Kit - available at BCF for about $110

    Pack includes 1 x 8T, 9M snatch strap, 1x 10T, 3m tree trunk protector,
    1 x 4.5T, 10m winch extension, 1 x 8T Snatch Block, 2 x 4.7T bow shackles
    Dampener that doubles as a carry bag
    Shackle is C45 Carbon steel hot galvanized with a 40CrV hot galvanised steel pin
    Compliant to AS/NZS 2741.2002 Standard

    I DONT have a winch......but like being prepared and happy to have gear on hand if we needed assistance from someone who did?

    Seems like a reasonable deal and good reviews on BCF site.....

    I also assume from other posts here that the 8T snatch strap and 4.7T shackles will be suitable for use on the LR4 front & rear recovery points....?

    This is my first set of recovery gear so Any thoughts are appreciated....

    My daughter rates XTM gear…….





    Hangon she does work for BCF and gets good discounts.

    Whether it ls any good I cannot help ya on that one.

    Maybe I should have clarified "any unbiased thoughts are appreciated...." haha

    Should off added, even through I’d get an awesome price I don’t reckon I’d be tempted to purchase.

    I have the following

    ARB snatch
    ARB tree protector
    ARB dampener
    Dobinson winch extension
    ?? Snatch block
    ?? Bow shackles

    Recovery gear-
    If you have it, you have it. If you don't, well... perhaps there will be no recovery for you.

    My opinion- have something rather than nothing. And know how to use it safely.
    Everything else is details.

    Thanks Avenger, Yep, I was kind of leaning this way.....better to have something in the kit rather than nothing.

    We're not extreme off-roaders (yet), so the snatch in sand is likely to be of most value, but I'm probably happy to throw down an Avo for this as a place to start......

    As for learning how to use it, safely.......ummmm, for the time being I suppose Pat.C and the guys and gals on the Extreme Offroad show will need to be my TV tutors......it's def a case of "All the Gear and no idea" at this point.....hahaha

    Got some Maxtrax coming so, looking forward to Christmas Touring!!!

    I don't know much about the D4 (I assume this is what would be on the recovery menu), but some basic tips:

    NEVER put a snatch strap on a towball - always use a recovery point that is designed for such. The D4 guys may be able to advise the best product pr place to do this.
    Only use as much force as possible- sometimes it takes just a small nudge to get a car unstuck- no need to go full send if you don't have to.
    Shackles - never side load- use them in their long axis- ie force between the bow side and the pin side.
    If you have / use a winch keep it in service, and know how to use it.

    The easiest way to not get stuck is to work out if you really need to go there. Leave the ego at home, not the 4wd track. Hard tracks hurt cars, hurt cars fail, failed cars cost $$$ and time to fix. Makes a 100m walk to scout a section and honestly evaluate the capability of the vehicle worth it.
