    Wiring a dip switch

    G'day all,
    I'm wiring up my dip switch, I've got a new loom. Is there any way of knowing which of the connections on the switch are which ? I'm happy there is an earth, high beam and low beam. I assume when the plunger is lowered it creates a contact to points, when it retracts the point rotate to create the circuit to the opposing circuit (low or high beam) but what I don't is which is what on the switch. Does this make sense ? (I'm a complete novice when it comes to auto-electrics)

    Been a while but I don’t think that any of those terminals will be earth. One will be power and the other two will go to the lamps. The earth should be close to the lamps.

    G'day Kim,

    The headlight dip switch is called a single pole double throw (SPDT) latching press button switch. (There is no earth used on the switch.)
    It switches the negative lead from the battery via the headlight switch to the high and dip headlight bulb. (Assuming you still have a positive earth system.) From the manual the High beam cable is Blue with White tracer and dip is Blue with Red tracer. The common contact is connected to the cable that goes to the headlight switch and connects to either the High beam or Dip beam when the switch is pressed.
    From your picture using YOUR labels the low beam is the common and the high and dip cables can go on either the High or Earth contacts because it is a latching press button switch so it can be either one.
    The best way to confirm the contact positions is using a mutlimeter on low ohms to check continuity.
