Much better than the old rally type covers, At least if you forget to remove the covers you still get plenty of ligh out of the spotties when you turn them on

Leave them off, a great way to reduce effective light by 5-10% having them on

    I dissagree.
Leave them on until you need to use them as they will keep the main lense free of bugs and they also offer a bit of protection against stone damage.
They are easy to take off and replace and it's not as if we need to use the extra lighting every time we drive our 4WD's.

They’re Kings, the lenses will cloud long before they chip enough to worry about. Adventure Kings 9" spotlight covers

My lights (not Kings) have no chips, and have been on for a long time without issue.

Rare that anybody stops to remove covers - as for bugs - they’re on the headlights if it’s that bad - clean them..

Made covers for my potties from a piece of black leather that I cut and machine sewed, I integrated a rubber cord at the back so it keeps the cover well fit.

I don't like lights that size on a defender, they run fairly hot as it is and you don't want to reduce airflow into the radiator, which they will. So in hot weather with the aircon going you need all the clean air that you can get.
As an owner of a defer just my opinion.
