Pay TV, worth it or not?

Hi folks, just wondering how many of you that have Pay TV, think it’s worth the money.

Yesterday I got a letter from my Pay TV supplier informing me, to quote “ Owing to world pressures, they were increasing the monthly rate by $3 “.

So I promptly rang them and removed the two Movie Channel Packages.

They raised my bill by $3 and I lowered it by $30, how clever are they.

Anyway, to my question, is there any programs that you consider worth the money you pay?

Its worth every cent to me, out on the farm the local service is wanting (although we now have digital top boxes on all the four TV's, and Austar boxes on three TV's).

I watch mainly Movie, History, and Motor Sport/Fishing occassionaly National Geo & Lifestyle Chanel. My wife the Cooking Chanel, TV1, & UK TV and shes a fanatic on the footy chanel...she gets the 106cm plasma for the footy, I then retreat to the den...set up like mini theatre, gotta do something on freezing days in Mullion Creek

I got Foxtel with the works and I consider it an entertainment expense and worth every cent..It keeps my two small children amused for hours with the wiggles and my History knowledge has increased tenfold also things like a 4x4 is born are really interesting,Sport the list go's on...

"world pressures" ????? What a lot of bunk. Simple, confusing, irrefutable blanket excuse to raise prices without declaring their real reasons. This is the reason why I will never give Foxtel or Austar my money. They can go jump. They do it every time one comes knocking at my door. The last Foxtel guy tried the "you're the only one in the street without a dish!" crap last time on my wife.

Down in Cooma - we'd have no choice once we build a house. Even then - until they get the "Sci-Fi" channel going here in Oz like they do in the USA they can go jump. We'll read a few books and listen to a nice record by the oil lamp instead.

I think it is worth every cent, i have been considering removing the movie channels but i still watch them regularly. I mostly watch the how to channel, the lifestyle channel, Discovery channel, history channel, discovery science, CI and a few of the other normal channels like the comedy channel and fox 8. I would have to say now i have had it o wouldnt consider canceling it as there are to many shows that i watch on Pay that dont appear on free to air. matt

I recently went back to pay TV after 4 years in the wilderness. My decision was not based on cost but a moral obligation to not support the open air channels stuffing reality TV down our throats.

Who in their right mind would like to see a bunch of retards sit around a house and do nothing or watch some d-grade celebrity try their hand at singing or ice skating. I cringe every time they advertise a new series of reality TV .. and seems to be the norm .. as soon as one ends the next one begins. It is an epidemic and all you blokes with kids should not allow them to watch this crud.

Get pay TV and let them watch Adventure 1, Discovery Channel or even FUEL TV .. at least its people and kids getting out there doing something "REAL"!

.. Soap Box now vacant ....

I have to say, I like watching TV, and for the first 6 months, Pay TV was very entertaining.

BUT, after seeing everything, over and over again, time after time and the fact that Pay TV only put up a few hours of new material every month, it works out cheaper to go BUY the movies I want to see than to pay the monthly rate for seeing the same movies repeatedly, month after month and that’s only when they run movies on the movie channels.

I am so fed up with these crooks putting docos or foreign language films on channels I have paid for to watch MOVIES on.

The other thing that really gets me, is that after I PAY to watch this crap, I am then forced to watch more adds than they run on FREE to air TV. Another one of little Johnny Howard's benefits to the owners of Pay TV

The only good thing is that if you do miss something on one of the doco or info channels, you know that in about 3 to 6 months time, it will be repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated, and repeated.

The answer to your first question is Stacey. It drives me nuts, i would fork out the extra $20 bucks a month for a second box in the bedroom so i could watch pay in bed but its an extra expense i dont need at the moment.

I agree Henry its a load of crap, the only reality TV shows i ever watched were The Block and the Mole because both had a purpose and were interesting. The problem is now that once big brother finally ends in a week we have to put up with Australian Idol for 3 months.

    Exactly my point.

I struggle to get out of house now and enjoy the vehicles we love to drive. I do not have the time to sit and watch something that I have seen years ago. Sure the Discovery channel is excellent but after that it's all crap. Not to mention the dollar value

    Cheers.

I have 2 boxes one upstairs and one down stairs for the kiddies. I must admit I love my TV in general, and love my Austar . I also have a DVD card for the video shop whereby I pay $30 a mth for unlimited DVD's but can only have 4 out max at anyone time. I like Pay TV cause is there is nothing on free to air, there is always something on Pay. I like to watch the movie channels, the doco channels, cooking, some of the sports ones, if I miss the Super V8s, I get to watch it again, repeats of some of my fave shows ie Seinfield, the Law and Order series, Arena has some good shows on it, the comedy channel. I would prefer to be able to pick and choose on some, plus we also get one free Blockbuster a mth, so if I feel like watching something again which I tend to do, Ive got it there. Thats me covered , also good for the kids ie Disney the other kiddie channels etc, again doco's, Animal Planet etc. Thats my 2 cents worth

    Regards

    Stevo
