BAS egr blank via gap tool

    Gday All

Starting to get sick of cleaning the inlet side of my tdv6 and see that BAS offer the egr blank via gap tool.. so being very novice user of the gap tool and computer challenged am I looking for a world of pain by trying to do this myself.

I would like an engine remap as well but that puts a fear in me that I will do something stupid and kill the ecu if that’s possible.

Question is - I’m sure there are some on here that have done this so was it as daunting as I’m making it out to be. Is there any tips that you found along the way that make the process easier .

    Thanks and cheers Bulletman

Piece of ****. Buy the remap from the BAS website. They'll send you instructions.
Basically, send them the ECU list from the GAP. If (like mine) there's an unusual firmware in the ECU they'll send you instructions to make a backup of it and send it over. They'll patch it and upload it to GAP.
You "upgrade" the firmware in your GAP tool using the updater PC app (or Mac in my case) to the version they tell you to, and use it to patch the ECU.
You then re-upgrade the firmware in the GAP back to the bog standard and you're on your way.

It sounds more complicated than it is, and in my case (DPF and EGR delete) went off without a hitch. Because I have a manual, it has created an unintended consequence of a weird throttle "flare" on every gear change that makes it sound like I can't drive a manual and an odd "sticky throttle at idle" phenomenon that I've gotten used to. On yours there should be no issues.

Cheers Brad .. yep clear as dirty water, only slightly clearer than mud but getting better. I'm still struggling with the email the gap page to BAS part.. spend some more time tonight plugged in to the car and have a play and see off the water starts to clear up.

when I spoke with BAS systems a couple of years ago they didn't have an update for the 3L only for the 2.7L. maybe things have changed for them? I'd be interested to know how you go as I just recently had my 3L tuned/remapped (engine and transmission) and EGRs programmed out here in Melbourne but it definitely was not cheap!

    Hi

The 3.0l is not currently tuneable with remap or egr or in a nut shell non standard files by OBD with the iid tool.
Some of the later models we are going to add in early 2021 as they are going to be obd programable.

To check if yours is that later type you can send me the ecu info from the iid tool app to this email

Can’t flash ECU through OBD is problem hence need some sort of smoke and mirrors trick to fool it on 3.0.

Hardest bit of BAS bit is getting the butterfly off the spindle.

Pete literally gives you a how to and you call him if in doubt. I’ll send the email chain if you PM me.

Pete sells you shims for the EGR tubes. I’ve since put the blanking kit in and deleted the tubes which makes any job to remove the Y inlet 10x faster. If yearly MOTs come in I can put it back.

That's an easy one. On whatever device you use to access the GAP tool, go to the ECU list page and then there's an option to E-mail it. It generates a PDF of the details and sends it wherever you tell it to.
I get it to E-mail me by default and I forwarded that on to BAS.

I keep a record of my fault lists the same way. Always E-mail them to myself before I clear them.

X2 with BradC and Bulletman, I bought a GapIID BT from BAS and followed the procedure as set out by Pete, he included the EGR delete and the towing tune that he had done for my discarded faultmate, all done in a couple of days after receipt of the GAP.
    A great investment.
D3 runs very well now 400K+.

    Cheers

It works well. But remember you need both sides - you need the physical blanking plates and to instal them and the software modification from BAS. Both our two MY12 D4 TDV6's have been running a BAS tune and EGR delete for 2 and 3 years respectively. Nil issues.
