    Question New Defender - Servicing

    Hi All,

Just ordered a new defender 110 d300 se - question though - does it have to be serviced by a landrover dealer?
Does going elsewhere void any warranties etc?

Stupidly there's no dealer currently in Wagga, closest is over an hour away so would be annoying to take there every time...

Would you be confident taking it somewhere else?

No LR Indie in the area?

If not an Indie, but they are fully qualified, you will probably be OK,but maybe check with LR first.

Our D4 never went back to the dealer for any servicing, but we used a local Indi with a very good reputation with LR.
They were great, half the price of LR,and twice as good as the work done on the previous vehicle by LR.

For warranty work,it had to go back to the dealer, and it went there quite a few times, which was a nuisance.

If you stick to the factory service intervals - it’s every 34,000km… Depending on the kms you do - that’s maybe once a year?

I believe that Australia consumer law says that you don’t have to get it serviced at a dealer, providing that it is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s specs.

Personally - I get mine serviced at the dealer that I bought it from (1.5hr drive away). It’s a pain but hopefully if I ever have a warranty issue, then I have a relationship with them. Technically I shouldn’t have to - but with an expensive vehicle like this, I don’t want to take any chances.

Purely my opinion though - others will say service it yourself, and service it more regularly than 34,000km or 2 years.

I also wonder - if you don’t service it at a dealership, how wilk you know about any “In service” modifications that they do? (The very early Defenders suffered an A-pillar plastic trim issue, that dealers had to fix. The piece has been redesigned and isn’t an issue on the newer ones)..

Good luck - I have done 55,000km in 15 months and absolutely love mine.

    Cheers,

Thanks. Makes sense. Didn't realise service intervals were only 34,000km. That makes it much easier. Was thinking they would be more like 10,000.

Is that really true? 34,000km’s between oil changes.

Yep. Makes me uneasy but that’s the factory service interval - 34,000km or 2 years.

Some people do pay dealers to change the oil more frequently than that.

Remember that the vehicles come with a 5 year unlimited km warranty.

Spot on but the issue is getting it enforced - really up to the individual to pursue legal matters as their is no real system to do it for you.

No, the vehicle does not have to be serviced by the a dealer as long as it is serviced according to LR specifications - but have an issue and try to get LR to come to the party - is it going to be worth the hassle, the stress and the financial hit?

You could get the local guy to do in between services, just engine oil changes, then LR for the bigger services.

It is well documented that the long drainage intervals don't do engines any favours.

Not worth the stress in my eyes - that’s why mine is getting serviced at a dealer. When the warranty expires then I will take it to an indi..

The little brain tells me that I'll need Adblue at 14200km. So regardless of the significant service I'll be getting oils and filters changed and everything else looked at, at least every 12 months.
